Impact on Benefit Program Payments from Service Canada

Canada Pension Plan (CPP) Disability Payments:

  • Employees receiving a CPP disability pension are not required to pay CPP contributions. If you are in receipt of a CPP disability pension, please contact your payroll department (902-541-3016) to ensure you are set up in the provincial SAP HR/Payroll system as CPP exempt. It is important that you contact your payroll department right away so changes can be made before Service Payout payments begin.
  • Service Canada has confirmed that employees who elect to receive the one-time service payout will not experience a reduction or claw back of CPP disability benefits.

Employment Insurance (EI) Benefits:

  • Service Canada has confirmed that employees who elect to receive the one-time service payout may lose up to one week of EI benefits.
  • You are encouraged to call Service Canada directly at 1-800-206-7218 to confirm the impact on your personal situation.
