The South Shore Regional School Board is a consortium partner in the Nova Scotia International Student Program (NSISP). Established in 1997, the NSISP is a joint venture of the Nova Scotia Department of Education and Early Childhood Development and the 7 English regional school boards across the province.

NSISP students come to study in grades 6 to 12, from 1 month to 1 year.

We host students from three regions of the world, approximately 1/3 of our students come from each of: South America, Europe and Asia.
Our students come from approximately 20 countries each year. There is a max of 5 NSISP students from any country enrolled in each school.

Our NSISP students live with a local (Homestay) family during their time here in Canada. The Homestay family is at the heart of the NSISP. Living with local South Shore families, our international students are immersed in English and Canadian culture. In turn, host families learn about the culture, customs, and traditions of their student’s home country. Host families are compensated for providing living accommodations and meals for the student. All other expenses are the responsibility of the student.

The NSISP has Homestay Coordinators in each regional school board. Coordinators work closely with host families to assist with the transition of students, to resolve any issues, and to provide on-going support. We are always looking for caring, loving families who would like to host an international student. We encourage you to consider welcoming the world to your home.
