November 26, 2009: Elliott Payzant Named Board Chair

Elliot Payzant was named to a second term as Board Chair at the annual general meeting of the South Shore Regional School Board November 25. 

Mr. Payzant thanked his fellow Board for their confidence in him and said that his focus as Board chair will continue to be on “the students of the South Shore and their education needs”

Herbert Seymour was elected Vice-Chair of the Board, moving into the position previously held by Gary Mailman.

The Board holds an annual meeting immediately following its regular meeting in November to establish the Board executive and standing committees for the year ahead. The Board has three standing committees – the Education Committee, the Finance & Operations Committee and the Human Resources Committee.

Members of the Education Committee are Marg Forbes (chair), John Jenkins (vice-chair), Mustapha Maynard and Jill Francis. The committee meets every second Tuesday of the month at 6:30 p.m., beginning December 8.

On the Finance & Operations Committee are Max Rafuse (chair), Wanda Bezanson (vice-chair), Karen Reihardt and Butch MacLeod. This committee meets on the first Thursday of the month at 1 p.m., beginning January 7, 2010. In December, it will meet on December 1 at 1 p.m. to accommodate members’ schedules.

Making up the Human Resources Committee are Gary Mailman (chair), Max Rafuse(vice-chair), Allan Foster and Marg Forbes. It meets on the third Thursday of each month at 6:30 p.m., beginning January 18, 2010. In December, the committee will meet at 1 p.m. December 14.
