Every eligible child attending public school in Nova Scotia is automatically covered by the School Insurance Program (SIP). On the program website, you will find more information about the program, as well as claim forms and policy details.

The Family Literacy website provides ideas and resources for making literacy a part of everyday activities in your household.

The Atlantic Provinces Special Education Authority (APSEA) is a cooperative interprovincial agency set up to serve the educational needs of children and youth in Atlantic Canada who are deaf, deaf-blind, hard of hearing, blind, or visually impaired. More information on the agency is available on the APSEA website.

The Learning Disabilities Association of Nova Scotia is a not-for-profit organization dedicated offering support, advocacy, and referral services to children, parents, professionals and others dealing with learning disabilities. More information is available on its website.

The Department of Education website includes a section devoted to the program planning process - a team approach to planning an appropriate education for students with special needs. The information includes a parents' guide to the program planning process. The programming planning section of the Department website can be directly accessed here.

The School Bus Safety website by Safety Services Nova Scotia is a great resource for parents and students. Check out the website for some helpful teaching tools for your kids!

iNSchool is a province-wide program aimed at leveraging technology to better support student achievement.  iNSchool is being led by our province’s eight school boards and the Department of Education. The website can be directly accessed here.

iNSchool includes the introduction of:

  • a system that will manage core student information - such as demographics, attendance, behaviour, achievement and schedules - for roughly 135,000 students;
  • a system that will better enable educators to identify and manage programs for students who need additional support, such as reading recovery, literacy support and individual program plans; and
  • a business intelligence suite that will facilitate planning at the school, board and provincial level.
