The South Shore Regional School Board offers enriched programming options for senior student who wish to pursue university or other academic studies following their high school graduation - the Advanced Placement (AP) Program and the International Baccalaureate (IB)Program.

The AP Program was developed by The College Board and allows high school students to take university-level academic course and  to show that they have mastered the advanced materials by writing AP exams. Based on their performance, students can earn credits toward their college or university studies. More information about the Advanced Placement program is available on the College Board website.

The program is available at three of the Board's seven high schools - Bridgewater Junior-Senior High School, Forest Heights Community School and New Germany Rural High School.

In the South Shore region, the IB program has been offered at the Park View Education Centre since 1980. Currently, there are more than 2500 schools in 130 countries offering the program.

The International Baccalaureate was originally designed to meet the needs of children of the international business and diplomatic communities. The founders of the program then set out to create an international curriculum that would satisfy the demand of various national education ministries.

The program works with schools, governments and international organizations to develop challenging programs of international education and rigorous assessment. These programs encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right.

There is an application and testing process for students wishing to enter the IB program. More information about the program is available through the Park View guidance department and on the website of the Park View International Baccalaureate Society, a registered not-for-profit organization which provides support for the IB program at the school.
