RCH Student Support Workers
The Student Support Worker program has evolved over time, but its primary goal is to assist students in their educational endeavors by creating a positive and supportive learning environment in which students can achieve success and remain in school.
The Student Support Worker program developed from the BLAC Report on Education (1994). The report offered recommendations that would foster an equitable and accessible education system for all students. The Student Support Worker program at the South Shore Regional School Board (SSRSB) has expanded to incorporate and support students of African and Aboriginal descent academically, culturally and socially.
The Students Support Worker Program is part of the Race Relations, Cross Cultural Understanding and Human Rights (RCH) Division of the SSRSB. Student Support Workers work with the support of the school principals and staff, under the direction of RCH Coordinator. Student Support Workers are part of a team, which includes students, parents, principals, teachers, support staff and at times community agencies. Students Support Workers assist in creating bridges to alleviate gaps in educational opportunities.
