Lunenburg County YAC Receives Provincial Award

On April 9, 2014 students of the Lunenburg County Youth Advisory Committee received the Minister’s Award for Leadership in Crime Prevention, acknowledging their work in the areas of bullying, substance abuse and sexual harassment.

The theme for the 2014 symposium was Collaborating for Community Safety. The students attended the event which included presentations about reducing gun violence, resolving conflict in a productive manner, and redirecting at-risk youth behaviour toward more positive activities.

On April 9, 2014 students of the Lunenburg County Youth Advisory Committee received the Minister’s Award for Leadership in Crime Prevention, acknowledging their work in the areas of bullying, substance abuse and sexual harassment.

The theme for the 2014 symposium was Collaborating for Community Safety. The students attended the event which included presentations about reducing gun violence, resolving conflict in a productive manner, and redirecting at-risk youth behaviour toward more positive activities.

The Lunenburg Youth Advisory Committee is a group of 31 students from middle and high schools in Lunenburg County, partnered with the RCMP and SchoolsPlus. The group tackles difficult issues like substance abuse, sexual harassment and assault, and bullying. They work together with the RCMP to create public service announcements and videos to present to their peers throughout the county.
